USO South Carolina Celebrates its Volunteers as a Force Behind the ForcesSM for National Volunteer Week

Volunteers make it possible for USO South Carolina to serve more than 130,000 service members and military families annually

As people across the country take this week to recognize those who do extraordinary things through service, USO South Carolina is paying tribute to its more than 130 volunteers who consistently give back to the men and women who give so much for our country.

Through our USO centers at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, McCrady Training Center, the Military Entrance Processing Station at Fort Jackson, Joint National Guard Base McEntire, as well as through programs provided throughout South Carolina, USO volunteers ensure service members and their families always feel at home.

“USO South Carolina volunteers are truly a Force Behind the Forces,” said Joanie Thresher, Director of USO South Carolina. “Every day, these selfless volunteers share their time and talent to provide a home away from home for the brave men and women who serve our country.”

The USO strengthens America’s military service members by connecting them to family, home and country throughout their service to our nation. In 2017, USO South Carolina’s 130 volunteers gave nearly 15,000 hours of their time! Whether it’s connecting a service member far from home to his child through United through Reading, serving a meal, providing a listening ear, or always making sure there’s fresh coffee for weary travelers, USO volunteers are the reason service members know they can count on the USO!
